No matter what business you are in, 80% of your success relies on showing up.

If you want to win, show up. If you want more income, more sales, more deals, and to reach your full potential, you’ve got to show up. It really doesn’t matter how great your business idea and product is, how smart you are or talented, if you are not showing up. So, how do you do that?

We already know how important showing up is in sales, business, and careers, even if we don’t realize it. Think about school. Even though you can now complete school 100% online, traditional schools still require you to show up in order to pass each year, and to graduate, regardless of your grades. You can have the best resume ever designed, and be the most skilled in your field, but if you don’t show up for the interview, or the first day of work, you aren’t going to have the job, right? In real estate sales, winning the business is at least 80% showing up. It’s the agent or investor that shows up and is there who gets the deal. That’s regardless of all the great marketing going on, track records, knowledge, skill, ethics, or family ties. If you are the one there, showing up, the deal is yours.

Here’s how to apply showing up more to your business today…

Respond to Inquiries Immediately

One of the ways that businesses, sales people, and independent professionals fail to show up most often is in responding to leads. This is especially true in real estate, and to insane levels. It is mind boggling the amount of time and money real estate agents, businesses, and brands spend on marketing and advertising, only not to bother to answer leads. Why bother? Why do all that and then not reply to Craigslist ads, incoming emails, or phone calls? It’s just a waste. You might as well have taken the week off and spent the money on vacation.

Speed of follow up is critical too. Google now says you need to be responsive to customers within 1 second. Sales conversions dive dramatically each minute between inquiry and response. That can be tough without good technology and systems. Though if you can’t do it yourself, then get a team who can.

Show Up to Networking Opportunities

One of the best ways business owners, entrepreneurs, and salespeople can show up is simply attending networking opportunities. There are countless opportunities like this every week, in every corner of the country. You can make at least one of them each week. Some are paid, some are free. Some are casual meetups, some are organized functions or events. Get out there, be there, and meet the people looking for what you have to offer. It can be a lot of fun too. Make a commitment to do it. Follow through.

Tell People How You Can Help

Another major mistake is being there, but failing to convey that you can help and how. Being there and being social is fun, but it isn’t going to produce results unless you get your message across, and ask for the business. Ace this with a good elevator pitch, knowing your unique value proposition, and making strong calls to action. Start by understanding their needs, and finding out how you can help.

Show Up with More Value

Sales in any field can be a process, requiring several touches. If you don’t close the first time you connect, show up and surprise them with more value, not just extra upsells. You’ll become memorable, and when they need your product or service they will find you, and they will refer you to others.

Show Up in Search

One of the most important ways to show up today is in online searches. Be there when people and other businesses are searching for your product or service. Do this with SEO, online ads, and apps.


If you want to win, show up more. Show up when they are looking for a solution, show up and introduce a solution when they are out networking, be responsive when you get a lead, and pile on the value.
